How a good design can help reduce the cost by almost 25%, read the whole story here 👇
A Natraj pencil is 172mm long. We cannot use the graphite in all 172mm, for obvious reasons. Mostly, the last 40mm is difficult to hold in hands. So it is wasted and thrown away by kids or their parents. ❌
Assuming, around 50mm of graphite is wasted in each pencil, say that around 25% of a pencil is wasted. Pencil manufacturers can instead leave the last 40 or 50mm without lead and use them to produce new pencils. 😲
This way they can reduce wastage and the raw material cost and using the graphite saved from every three pencils, they can make a new pencil. 😎 ✏
On a fun note, I use to put the small part of pencil in a compass to draw circles. 😛
